Much like the first time that I was allowed to drive on my own, my first date and the first time that I had… (never mind), this encounter with a Tonni Nielsen ‘Stallion’ will be a first that I shall never forget.
I, clearly, have been out of touch with Tonni’s work for far too long, I wasn’t even aware that this shape existed (seriously!). Perhaps I should cut myself some slack; this is only the third Stallion to make it on to our site, but it still feels a tad like “Bo Nordh made a Ramses?!”, writ small. Boasting an inspired placement of plateau on the rim and the mount, the latter is executed as a crisp tear-drop, and that form repeats (in a slightly more muted fashion) on the former. The bowl is compressed along the vertical axis, creating lovely fans on the side, can you think of a finer way to show off a flame grain of such magnitude (I can’t)? “The Stallion”, eh? I might be time for me to dust off my old Stetson.--R. ‘Bear’ Graves
