About This Pipe
This particular Ikebana presents a complex interaction between various contrasting elements; the bowl is thick-walled and of considerable substance, and posed in a dashing, aggressive cant, while transition, shank, and stem are all quite lean and follow in a gentle flow. Yet still, we find the tight, craggy plateau of the rim and the bamboo's quartet of prominent knuckles providing complement to each other, and thus pulling the composition closer together as a whole.
