It's long been a common practice in the Danish school to pair a soft bowl form (such and Egg) with an architectural shank as a means to "anchor" the design as a whole. Here Werner Mummert follows a similar theme, but in his own way; the Egg of the bowl is itself firmer in style, its form accentuated by the deeply cut transition, while the shank and following stem accent take on a design quite a bit more complex than a simple squared or diamond cross-section. The result is more poised in approach than supple, and brings to my mind a comparison not with a Danish Egg, so much as a Staunton chess piece.
