Winslow's Crown series offer some of the best values in all of pipedom. By using less expensive briar and preformed stems, Poul can present his unique handmade designs at prices on par with most factory turned numbers. This Freehand sitter is a great example. The shaping itself is as asymmetrically Winslow as can be sporting plenty of flaring ridges, smooth paneling, and a good bit of craggy plateau along the rim. It's finished in a smoky high-contrast stain that highlights some impressive grain for a Crown - with flame leaping up all around the bowl and large patches of birdseye covering the top and underside of the shank and heel. For a handmade Freehand of this caliber, it's hard to beat a Crown for the price.
