Product: Mac Baren Mixture Flake 3.5oz
This review is based on a tin from 2014 so take it for that. Opened the tin and it had a heady smell of the Mac Baren Cavendish and burley, almost like Navy Flake of the same make. First smoked fresh out the tin and it was MacBitey, like some of their tobacs can be. I let it rest for a month and came back. Bite was gone. Packed it in my Icarus bent egg and gave it a run. Needed a little dry time and also requires slow puffing. The flavor really takes off after the first third and just ramps up the sweet tobacco flavors as it burns down. even has a touch of fermented sweetness from dark fired burleys here and there. Again this can burn at an inferno temp if not paced, but even then it did not bite. I like it quite a bit to get going for more virginias in the afternoon. A lot can be admired about a blend that starts slow and builds to the bottom. A good blend for the summer and if I find another tin with that age I will definitely purchase again....Read More
Not Bad

Product: Mac Baren Mixture Flake 3.5oz
This isn't really a strong aromatic. The top dressing that's used isn't extremely noticeable in the flavor. I mostly get a bit of nuttiness from the Burley and some of the hay and sweet citrusy flavors from the Virginias. There are hints of vanilla and berry from time to time, but it's not overwhelming by any means. The tin I opened was six years old and the moisture level was perfectly fine. It loads well and burns well. A bit hot in the bowl, but not in the smoke. Doesn't give tongue bite. It's worth checking out, but it's not something I'll make a point to keep a tin of in my cellar....Read More

Simply one of the joyous and unfettered tobaccos around. Clean is a good way to describe it. Simply a nice good smoke. It's not a knock you out of your socks variety, but rather more like good food and drink, the kind of which you do not get tired of. Smell in tin was sweet and toasty. Form of the flakes was perfect, nicely tight packed leaf. It rubs out very well, and folds just as nicely. This was just moist enough to remain springy, and dry enough to take the light on only two matches. The smell of the smoke was like warm toast and honey. Crunchy sweetness but not candy, just the sweetness of good bread. It burned to a fine grey ash and left no dottle. There was no bite to speak of, and it left a very pleasant aroma in my beard that I could smell the rest of the day. The real test was after a walk with the pipe, the girlfriend didn't mind at all the aroma left on me (unlike some other blends that make me smell like an old fireplace) DO yourselves a favour and try this magnificent Mac Baren offering. (If you don't like it, just send me the tin... ;-)...Read More
