Extremely disappointing and unreliable (likely defective)

I received this lighter as a gift. It looks great, but it doesn't light. I went through two flints trying to get it to light consistently without success and ended up with a raw thumb to show for it. I called support to find out I can't get a replacement even though it's defective, and I will have to send it in for repair under the two-year warranty. This is my favourite lighter, my trusty lighter. Compared to my Zippo, where the flame is closer to the finger making somewhat awkward to light the pipe. Was lighting my fingers rather than the pipe... not really how I want to enjoy my pipe! This on the otherhand, is much better suited for pipes. I highly recommend this lighter for pipers. Really enjoy how easy it is to take apart for cleaning! My only small complaint, is that there exist no fill line. I cannot tell the status. Never know it is empty until I go to smoke at my lunch break and the sparkwheel produces gar nix! :-D Due to this, I have made it a habit to refill every Sunday right before I head to bett. Directional Soft flame

Perfection, a wonderful directional soft flame for pipe smokers. This is a well made and sturdy lighter. I have two of these along with a collection of 40 zippos and a variety of other lighters. The directional flame makes it far superior to a bic or a normal zippo for the pipe enthusiast as one can avoid charing the rim of the pipe bowl AND avoid roasting your index finger with an awkwardly positioned lighter. It WILL NOT leak fluid and only deplete its reservoir through use. I also prefer it to the zippo pipe lighter. IT directs the flame naturally rather than you having to puff hardily to suck the flame down, making this pipe a less vigorous endeavor and compliments relaxation. It won't fight with wind but honestly neither will your pipe or most tobaccos. Smoking a pipe out in the wind isn't recommended. Find some shelter, pack your bowl and gently put this soft flame to leaf for a quiet relaxing pipe....Read More

I have hesitated purchasing a top dollar lighter, having the mindset that my $15 Zippo suffices. But I pulled the plug and picked this one up. I'm glad I did. The material is quite sturdy and high quality. There arent any loose parts or noticeable plastic bits. The fuel tank gives me about twice the capacity of my Zippo as well. Is an Old Boy style, $80-120 lighter necessary for pipe smoking? Not at all. But its quality already shows and I imagine I'll have close to a lifetime of enjoyment out of it, which you cant say for most other lighters....Read More
