Aside from being handy for restoring estate pipes purchased from sellers who may not have done any cleaning, shank brushes like this are good to have around just for regular maintenance of your regular smokers as well. The stiff bristles combined with a bit of grain alcohol (or other strong spirits) can make short work of stubborn build-up inside the mortise and draft-hole, plus (unlike bristled pipe-cleaners) you can just rinse a brush off and use it again, and again, and again.

This isn't necessarily a bad product but, the bristles don't go all the way to the end of the metal shaft creating a protrusion that can cause a divot in the chamber over time. It's also just a bit large for the draught hole.

I actually stopped using bristled cleaners after picking these up, they work really well and are reusable. Essential cleaning tool.

Work great a little aggressive scrub run a pipe cleaner or two, and drop it in alcohol to soak dry it, and your ready for another round.

It's a reusable nylon brush. Dip in your high-proof alcohol and save yourself some pipe cleaners, then soak it in the alcohol (you weren't planning on drinking that, were you) and get ready for next time.

It works well, does it's job. The twisted wire end is pointy so if you're concerned about scratches take care. The one I received doesn't have the black tip that looks vinyl, but I ordered it a while ago.
