Tampers & Tools: Senior Pipe Reamer

Just want to add my $1.05 : this is indeed a really nice tool that works pretty well once you get the hang of adjusting the 'blades' . I have (had?) two problems though: One, it's easy to get the depth wrong and damage the bottom of the bowl, and two you have to be careful with adjusting the 'blades' to tightly and/or 'scraping' too hard: as others have mentioned, the spring that holds the tension of the adjusted blades is a little delicate. I found that I could not get the results I wanted without what turned out to be too much force, but ( as with most maintenance tasks) I think it would work better on a more regularly maintained bowl, or else having softened the cake with cleaning fluid....Read More

This is a good overall reamer for large pipes. It does fall short when it comes to cleaning the bowl floor. The shank drill included on this tool works very well.

This works well once you figure out the weird Keychain band that holds the thing together. They could've designed that to be much sturdier. Once you get it moving it reams out the bowl pretty evenly. I will say it can dig out grooves if you're not careful.

I would never recommend this reamer. It's badly flawed. There's a spring that wraps around all three cutters, to hold them in place. Every time I use the reamer, this spring slips down off of the ends of the cutters, and then the cutters fall right off. Having reassembled the tool a half dozen times, I gave up and put a zip tie around the whole mess to keep things together. Now it semi-works. But should I have to take a brand new tool and fix it with a zip tie? Apparently others aren't having this problem, but so what? Do you want to chance it?...Read More

It did surprise me how big this was out of the package. It turns out that it's not too big for any of my pipes though. It's sturdy. The cutting edges are sharp enough. The bend at the end of the cutters causes a nice taper which is good for shaping the bottom of the bowl. I agree with another reviewer that the shank reamer that unscrews from the end of this tool is genius! Overall I am extremely impressed with this and highly recommend it....Read More

. I have one of this. The reamer itself is great. But, the drill in the back end is where the magic is. You unscrew it and you'll have a small drill like utensil. You wind your small pipe cleaner along the cavity(preferably Peterson cleaner) and thoroughly clean pipe airway. It will clear out most stubborn gunk out of the way....Read More

Works great on larger pipe bowls, but too large for several in the rack. Is there a "Junior" model for smaller bowls?

After reading the reviews I ordered one of these and it is like a butter knife and will not cut nor scrap off cake in my pipe. Seems to be dull from the factory. My Demrel has always worked for me with the slow speed scraper blade. But I can see this tool would be great if not dull -Maybe I can sale on ebay?...Read More

This tool is what you'll ever need to free your pipes from the cake. It does precise and wonderful job and it won't give you a feeling like you're going to hurt your pipe. Only a couple of adjustments are needed while reaming the bowl.
