Caldwell Cigar Company: The King Is Dead by AJ Fernandez Double Lonsdale Cigars

Product Number: 007-763-0069

The original The King Is Dead cigar is a Dominican puro hand-rolled at William Ventura's El Maestro factory. This version, though, sees Robert Caldwell collaborate with AJ Fernandez. They've already partnered before to release The T. cigar, and The King Is Dead by AJ Fernandez is a complete reimagining of the original blend: It entirely comprises Nicaraguan tobaccos from AJ's esteemed farms, showcasing a rich Maduro wrapper for an utterly unique variation on Caldwell's popular core line.

Reliable Companion

Product: Caldwell Cigar Company The King Is Dead by AJ Fernandez Double Lonsdale
Really like this one at 65-69% humidity. I remove a half point due to the wrapper moodiness when sliced at this range. Otherwise, it is full of complex flavor. Starts with spice, then melts into a caramel cream at the end. If smoked too humid it does not shine against a less expensive option. Long answer short: this is sweet and musty. Tobacco forward. Take it to a bar with friends where you will have it air out for a while and see if you agree that it favors a drier start. Remain the head well kept in your mouth to avoid wrapper issues if you do so. It also appears to smoke well with a good bourbon if you like this type of drink. This review comes after almost finishing the box. All the best; AV...Read More
Natural Creamy Sweetness

Product: Caldwell Cigar Company The King Is Dead by AJ Fernandez Double Lonsdale
4.5/5 Construction: These came very moist upon arrival with some wet patches due to the humidity pouches. Thankfully, I nursed them down gradually to a nice RH. I also dry-boxed a day before smoking. Wrapper a little toothy with a few stand out veins. Great weight and feel to this stick. Draw on the tighter side, which I now expect from Caldwell, but not in a bad way. Body: ⅓ is herby & spicy with lots of graham cracker aroma. I also got hints of dried fruit & citrus. ⅔ was my favourite. A natural sweetness dominates and brings through a distinct creaminess! Final third brings spice and pepper with small bits of savouriness. The nic hit was surprisingly mellow....Read More
