Hoyo de Monterrey: Excalibur Black Toro Cigars
Product Number: 007-022-0075
When the Cuban trade embargo of 1962 eliminated exportation to United States, Hoyo de Monterrey were some of the very first hand-rolled Cuban heritage cigars to fill the gap, getting their start by smuggling tobacco seeds out of Cuba in a diplomatic pouch, and going on to become one of the pillars of the Honduran cigar industry.
Today, Hoyo de Monterrey cigars are still handcrafted in Cofradia, Honduras, with fine examples such as this Excalibur Black Toro. Outside, you'll find a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Inside, the binder is Ecuadorian Sumatra, while the filler is Nicaraguan and Honduran. Altogether it's a feisty, fuller-bodied offering, and a fine addition to the brand's 40-year legacy of fine cigars.
