Stellar, Full-Bodied Nicaraguan With Some Finesse
March 29, 2025
Product: Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Toro
This is Cigar Aficionado Top 5 bait. Follow their Tp 25 lists a bit, and watch how often the Top 5 almost always features at least one or more strong, dark, Nicaraguan cigars. Frequently, and mostly deservedly, one of these spots is reserved for a Padron Anniversary series.

Well, that's what
we have here. This is a pretty bold and intense cigar with plenty of spice up front, and the usual assortment of espresso, dark chocolate, etc. Basically, you know going in what you're getting here, and the stick completely pulls it off. It's a long, meaty, substantial smoke that has that initial "bull in a china shop" beginning, before mellowing slightly, and delivering some semi-sweet notes, kind of like a German Chocolate Cake. I didn't find it particularly complex, but complexity is overrated, IMO, and often leads to a muddled flavor profile. Not here, just like there isn't much complexity in a Padron 1926 Maduro. If you like Padron 1926 maduros, and of course you do, this is a cigar for you. You even get to save a few bucks, though it's no bargain. It's the kind of cigar that is going to consistently deliver a 92+ CA style rating, and depending on your tastes, mood, setting, beverage, can deliver an individual experience that might justify even higher ratings.

The overall experience adds up to 5/5 for me. It is the kind of cigar I wish I could afford to smoke more often.
