Captain James A.M. Earle first took to sea at age 12, embarking on a lifelong passion that saw him ascend to the rank of Master of the Charles W. Morgan, the last of the wooden whaling ships, currently docked in Mystic, Connecticut. From the northeastern coasts of the Americas to New Zealand and Hawaii, Captain Earle saw the world through his voyages, often alongside his family, with each journey an adventure.

Founded by Jay and Louise Jones and currently manufactured by Cornell & Diehl, Captain Earle's Pipe Tobacco pays tribute to Captain James A.M. Earle's legacy, each blend in the series alluding to an important moment in his storied life — including Mystic (where the Morgan is currently docked), Honor (named after Earle's wife, Honor Matthews), and Ten Russians (a nod to the Captain's high-seas adventure to save ten Russians drifting in the Sea of Japan).
