Holy Smokes!
May 03, 2019
Product: Granger Granger 12oz
I just received my can of Granger in the mail today and it was one of those “Where have you been all my life?” moments.
I’ve been searching for the tobacco my grandfather smoked and this has been around forever, so I thought I’d take a chance. I was... Read More
reluctant to invest in a 12 oz can just to find out it wasn’t his blend and end up with a large amount of something I hated. While this doesn’t smell like his, I have found that I am enjoying Granger more than any of the dozens of tobaccos on which I have wasted my money over the years.
This will be my brand from now on. It is well balanced, tasty, and thoroughly enjoyable. I can smoke this all day long. It has a very pleasant room note as well. Read Less
Very Pleasantly Surprised

I am in the midst of trying and evaluating several of the OTC burley-based blends. I've recently tried Half and Half. Smoked the entire 12 ounce tin and I actually liked it. I see a lot of Half and Half bashing in the various review forums, but IMO i... Read More
t's really not bad. But after a week smoking Granger, it's the clear winner over Half and Half. Since we so often compare tobacco blend flavors to various foods, let me suggest this: I find Granger's overall taste to be a bit like Grapenuts cereal. Imagine smoking the "taste" of the Grapenuts in milk, ever so slightly sweetened. At least, that's how Granger's flavor comes off to me. And I like Grapenuts and I really like Granger.
I am also smoking a pouch of Prince Albert right now, too. I really like both Granger and PA, but they are a little different. Aside from some flavor differences, the biggest thing I've noted is that Granger is perhaps a bit stronger than PA. It is a little " rougher around the edges" than PA, I think. But in my book, that's a good thing because I can enjoy BOTH blends depending on whether I want something with a little more punch to it, or something milder.
Well, I have pouches of Carter Hall and Lane Limited Ready Rubbed waiting in the wings as my comparisons continue. In sum, though, I think Granger is a pretty good burley OTC blend. And its price is hard to beat, too! Read Less
Perfect In Every Way!

I find this a very reliable and satisfying smoke! It's what I would call a confetti cut, it packs easily and burns very well. The predominant character is that of simple untweaked burley, mild but with just enough edge. Packed light and sipped slowly... Read More
, Granger burns cool to the bottom of the bowl. I'm a burley smoker and would have to say this is the nuttiest tasting of all the nutty burleys, retrohale is great, aroma is comfortably old school. Best of all there are no chemical nuances and nothing remotely close to cigar notes. An easygoing, delicious all day smoke. Like other posters said this is indeed a big surprise. Highly recommended. I bought MacB HH Burley the same time as Granger. The HH Burley ended up in the garbage can, the Granger ended up on my reorder list. Read Less
Gifted History

Product: Granger Granger 12oz
I was gifted this tin for Christmas by my college age daughter who said she "simply bought it because it had a pointer on it". You see, we had a German Shorthaired Pointer for 13 years and that dog was an iconic family member. Not only do I apprec... Read More
iate my daughter going out of her way to buy me a tin of tobacco, but behold, Granger is 12oz of heavenly tasting history. I had no idea of the rich heritage of this blend and it's migration to STG from American Tobacco. It burns well, tastes wonderful and is flat over the top for me because I think of my daugher each time I smoke it. I feel like i'm smoking history and sending smoke signals of good cheer to my daughter, each time I light it up. Read Less

My Dad's Favorite

Product: Granger Granger 12oz
I tried this recently because the blue can was a fixture of my childhood. (I'm 67.) I love it! What I love is the pure taste of tobacco. I sense no flavoring standing between me and the burley. This has become a regular for me.

Granger and Half & Half are by far my favorite codger blends. Also, this and the old Holiday Excursion ship logo are the two best tin designs in pipe tobacco history! 👍
Cocoa/Molasses/Beechnut Chewing Tobacco

Product: Granger Granger 12oz
Love the rough cut. It makes loading the pipe much easier. This is very different than the original. This one is very heavy on cocoa, moderate molasses and a little lighter on anise. There's a sweet maple sugar in there too. When pushed, the bak... Read More
ing cocoa or unsweetened chocolate flavor really comes across and tastes like chocolate kettle corn. Not as smooth as Prince Albert, but sweeter and a bit sharp at times. Leaves a sweet pleasant aftertaste like chocolate and Beechnut chewing tobacco. Definitely for those that want a sweet, chocolatey, light, old-fashion burley that you can suck on all day. WARNING: You can tell Scandinavian Tobacco and particularly Mac Baren, had a hand in this redesign of the old... beware of the after smoke tongue-bite as the PH is off. Nicotine level is 1 out of 5. Happy Marriage

It's like Half & Half and Sir Walter Raleigh regular went on a date, fell in love, married, and had Granger nine months later. Then that Granger was raised in a loving household and became a well-rounded adult.
A Great Burley for the Price

Product: Granger Granger 12oz
I’ll start out by saying that I purchased this blend on nostalgia. This is the blend my grandfather smoked and for that reason alone, I had to try it out. I’m typically not a burley smoker but this stuff is good. It smokes cool and dry, burns well, a... Read More
nd being a ribbon cut, is easy to pack. It can burn a little hot if you get overzealous, but unless you’re really puffing it won’t bite. The flavor is mild, nutty, and very slightly sweet. For the price, you can’t beat it. I enjoy this tobacco in a Peterson Deluxe 8s. Read Less

A NICE, MILD SMOKE
March 29, 2016
Product: Granger Granger 12oz
I admit, I bought a can of Granger based solely on nostalgia alone. I'm not a huge Burley smoker, but after lighting up a bowl of this 'baccy, I can see why many refer to it as an "all day" smoke. After peeling back the lid of the can I too... Read More
k a whiff and was pleased that there was little more than a mild, slightly nutty aroma. It smoked easy and fairly cool, just a little passing tongue bite, and I didn't get the "ash tray" finish like I have on other OTC brands. I rate this higher than Prince Albert, Carter Hall, and the slippery muck that is calling itself Half and Half these days. I enjoyed it and will continue to "stay on point" with Granger. Read Less
A solid, inexpensive and Tasty Burley

Product: Granger Granger 12oz
At under $2 an ounce, Granger is a great Summer and Fall companion in a Cob. I really like the Rough Cut which is in between Prince Albert and Sir Walter which for me means it burns easily but also cool. While I do slightly prefer PA's Cocoa topping,... Read More
