烟气会有明显的烟熏感。过鼻柔顺 斗温易高。新手值得注意。抽快的容易烫舌，半斗之后烟气浓郁，过鼻酸爽有余韵。生草闻着调味明显。但抽起来。并没有想象中那么明显的调味

some, crumbles easily. Very light texture. Little shoe leather after dry and rubbout. Easy for fold and stuff as well leaving a little easy kindling for the top off.]
Some slightly greener (but not green) grass, catfish in the grass on a pond image, burnt matches room note after light (I used a lighter). No golden hay. Sharper when you get it light well and hit hard, almost a fruit kind of taste/feel. Enjoyed most when sipped real tenderly with lazy, slow, retro. Got a slight hint of pine roasting on retro. Little saw dust on the floor image. Milder than Stokkebye LNF. I prefer LNF more often, but love the slightly greener qualities and mildness along with the nuances of sweetness. I think about it more than am able to smoke it, but would smoke it more if I had more for sure. Basically save it for a treat until better stocked. I look forward to it in the rotation and will need to buy pounds of it.
Flavors come out better at just a smolder, veerry slow sip, just barely enough to keep it going on the edge of burnout. Hitting hard produces no more flavor but maybe less.

a flake, it packed and rubbed out easily to put a little kindling on top and fired right up. I only had to relight once or twice the whole bowl. It has a sweet grassy aroma, burned dry and cool, and overall was one of the better experiences I've had so far with pipe tobacco. Can't wait to try it again. ’ve had it in a mason jar for the last 8 years and pretty much forgot about it. It’s mellowed out and sweetened quite a bit but it STILL bites unless I’m super careful to sip it and barely keep it lit.
I think I’ve finally made my peace with this blend but it’s just too much work for me to enjoy with any regularity.
Some tobaccos just don’t agree with me and this one.
If I had reviewed this in December of 2014 when I first ordered it, I’d probably have given it 1 1/2 stars. Read Less

That said, its not bad. Pretty mild Virginia flake. I Got a couple of ounces. I'll let it sit and see what a year or more does. Definitely nothing I would reach for if if I had PS400 sitting on the shelf. Burns well. And that bite eases off further into the bowl. Moves to a nice bready smoke. THAT I do like, but it's not worth the bite to get there when I have other navy flakes that are delicious from first light to dottle. The flakes are double the length of PS400 or 50g OGS flakes. Beautiful strips. I want to love it, but that bitey top flavor makes it hard. Bag note tipped me off that this would be the case too. Blindfolded, I could pick out Newmisnster from a lineup. Mechanically, it rubbed out easily and packed easily. Once lit, it stayed lit to the bottom of the bowl. It smoked cool and dry with volumes of creamy, tasty smoke, and the flavour palate lasted throughout the bowl. It burned down to a fine white ash every time. The wife enjoyed the smell as well, saying it reminded her of chocolate and fruit. I did not notice any cocoa notes, but maybe I will now that I know to look for it. I will definitely buy this blend again, when I can.
I highly recommend this blend to any and all smokers, especially those who enjoy flakes and Virginia blends.

If you enjoy Orlik Golden Sliced this is a great bulk blend to give a go. It's very similar in the light grassy hay like notes and just a bit of the citrusy fruity notes of a typical Va flake. It's an excellent bulk to add to your cellar.

It reminds me of the smell of a cake baking in the oven - not cloying sweetness like the frosting, but rather the sweetened bready essence typical of many Virginias. It also shows the tangy citrus sourness that I have to have in a satisfying VA. There is also a nice woodsy BBQ floor arome provided by the additional condimental tobaccos giving it a wonderful complexity. This should age wonderfully. Read Less

e that reminds me of molto dulce or a light OTC cavindish which is really the only thing unpleasant about this blend but it's easy to over-look as the richness of the virginia deepens.
This definitely benefits with some age, it keeps me coming back almost daily trying to figure out what it is that keeps me coming back!

e slight pepper on the nose.
The topping melds with the flavor and is not something One would notice as it enhances the warmth of the profile.
Mellow and sweet without the brassy flavors of other blends this blend gives a great counterpoint of what virginia tobacco can taste like.
Power is a tic above mild and with a slow cadence to your draws it will not bite.
High Flavor, Low bite, low power, all make this a superb all day blend.
Recommend to all Enthusiasts and all Newcomers for this blend will be easy to enjoy.
I will add my growing appreciation of African Virginia tobacco.
Update: 6/26/23.
I packed this blend in a jar and left it to sit a while. During a sample check I found the flavors have edged more towards graham crackers and prunes with a growing smoothness. As the blend is already on the mild side of the flavor wheel I doubt aging beyond the “well rested” phase will give results but I do suggest there is a lot on offer from a “well rested” batch that seemed missing before.

I have always been an English smoker. But this flake has become my favorite tobacco. After aging it for 2 years, the tin note is orange and lemon. The taste is sweet and soft. What a wonderful smoke it has become. Highly recommended.

生草很好闻，浓郁的奶油果脯的味道。抽起来味道平淡了很多，中段开始出甜，甜度可以。刺激性很大，抽起来嗓子和舌头都有些不太舒服。斗温很高，一旦控制不好就高的离谱。草质感觉一般，除了甜度觉得没啥别的优点了。

Well, after a while in the jar this has proved a fantastic result. The sugars have smoothed, the grass has matured and the overall lens has improved significantly.
A great Virginia has developed.
The 400 has a great while of potential yet. I'm hoping it's going to be one of those '10yr +' champions of years to come. At this point it's right on target to get there. The sugar additives are mellowing to add to the caramels of the maturing Virginias and the the base tobaccos are melding to form a fantastic base malt. Just like a fabulous wort!
I'm thinking my bulk purchases over the past few years have paid off.
5 years in and this has proven a real value purchase. I have dedicated a Lars Iverson bent Dublin and am really happy with this combo. Sweet Virginias abound and while the sugar nose note still presents the delivery is pure tobacco sweetness. Very much looking forward to the following years as I work through the couple of pounds I have cellared away. Being in Australia a 50g tin of tobacco costs around US$100 a pop, so glad I stocked up when I could

STG had bought Lane, so it made sense for them to keep the distribution in house (they already owned the Peter Stokkebye brand). It worked out well for fans of economically priced quality flake tobacco. Anyway, I find this sort of inside baseball industry history fascinating for some reason. aroma is marked by a very pleasant and unique note, reminiscent of honey, fresh hay, and a hint of citrus. All of this fancy talk translates to a mild smoke with a noticeable added flavoring, and a very low nicotine content. Speaking of hot, it burns quite cool for a VA flake. It's well-behaved too; I like to rub them to ribbons, but it won't reject to the fold & stuff method. Although it's fairly one-dimensional, it's exceptionally good. The room note is more pleasant than other VA flakes I've smoked around non-smokers. Newminster #400 was my first flake tobacco, and it's a perfect place to start if you've never had a VA flake before. Read Less

difficult to use the "fold & stuff" method, the cutting into cubes working best for me. I experimented with it, mixing it with just a bit of burley and really liked the added dimension of flavors. I intend to do some further experimenting with this flake, as the cubes I cut blend well with other tobaccos, but alone it's still a fine smoke. Read Less

The least expensive one I've enjoyed just as much as the most expensive. You can't go wrong with this flake or either of the others. keep opening the jar you're trying to ferment, it darkens quite quickly, an indication of smokability. What you can do is leave small amounts of other tobacco out to go crispy dry, ie..Latakia or your favorite aromatic, berry, mango, peaches and cream, custard...you get my drift, tease out your flake in a bowl, rub your dried condiment tobacco into powder then gently rub that through your flake and"WALLAGH" the rest is up to you, experiment to your hearts content.

ongside a simpler VaPer to get an idea of what VA vs VaPer tastes like. I found smoking this next to PS Luxury Flake and Golden Slices helped me wrap my brain around what VA could be without additions.
It's sweet and light/bright, simple and straightforward but it burns hot and I need to work to keep it tame. I thoroughly enjoy this one as a palette cleanser between more complex blends.
I keep this for when I need my Capstan itch scratched because Capstan can be so expensive. Read Less

这草初到手实在是抽不出什么好来，平淡乏味，当时是豪海和牛眼缺货，就从畅销草里随便买了8oz，作为日程口粮，可是味道极其贫乏，看到价格也平，就挥霍起来。结果年后所剩无几的那点，偶尔清烟草罐却抽出了点味道，可以抽，比刚入手时好抽有甜味儿也有自己的果脯味儿，作为日常消耗可以。所以，无论什么草别急，打开难抽就放两年再说，这草是放两年才出味道的。

当初买这草就是因为ps豪海总是没货，准备用它替代一下，这草缺少照比豪海差一点。但也不是一无是处，到手放一年后，如果揉散了，用石楠斗抽都是很容易烧，斗温高，咬舌，平淡，可有可无的草。但是换上玉米斗，烟草不揉散，整片折叠瓶塞法，还是可以一抽，这样味道浓一些，甜味出来了，始终一个甜，做日常烟就能接受了。

尼古丁挺强劲的，斗温也是真高，对应的当然就是很咬舌，其实这草撇开它的斗温和对舌头的刺激感味道其实还可以的，甜甜的果脯味中段开始越来越甜，但是真的很烫。放了一年没有新草那么烫了也没那么甜了，尽管控制好了斗温但你仍然能感觉比其他草斗温都要高和刺激。放罐子里偶尔调剂一斗吧，天天抽这个东西舌头吃不消的

VA flavor, or even the vapor of the casing I liked so much in the beginning.
Alas. It wasn't to be. I hung in there with my 4 ounce sample for a couple of days, sporadically jumping back to this flake in hopes of a breakthrough. But last night I finally threw it out. Emptied my pouch right into the trash can. It smells good in my room, unlit. I had anticipated by the look and the texture something of the character of Stokkebye flake, but I was disappointed. ly with the malty sugars of a darker VA. If you smoke with care it will be surprisingly consistent through the bowl. But watch out! If youre enjoying yourself a little too much ang get carried away with the puffing, it'll run away on you and be hard to get back under control. This is all in how you pack it and how you control the burn. Once you get the hang of this, it'll be a favorite for the Virginia fan. I agree that this blend will benefit from aging, but it's good right away as well. Just keep an eye on the temperature and you'll be rewarded.
