For Newminster's blend No.84, Oriental Pipe Cut, smooth aromatic taste with hints of gentle oriental spice added by the mellow and sweet Turkish tobaccos, complement ripe Virginias from the best areas in Africa.
Bill B. nailed the description well, though I didn't experience any bite to speak of.
I primarily smoke VA's, but I do enjoy orientals, smoking blending oriental straight at times. This is a nice change of pace. The VA takes charge, but the oriental... Upon receiving it the appearance, texture and dryness made me concerned. I really expected it to burn hot and bite. It did neither. Smoked cool and bite-less all the way to a fine silver ash. A great all day smoke. I haven't played around with it yet, but I imagine it would be a wonderful blender. Something to lighten up a latakia blend that's too heady, or a VA that's too bland. Not even close: I have tried several of their blends in the past and ... Read MoreI have found each one disappointing in one way or another. Still, given my love of Orientals, as well as the very favorable reviews here, I went ahead and ordered 4oz of No. 84. The only good thing I can say about it is that it has a fairly pleasant room note. To me the tobacco tastes more like a cigarette than anything else, and it leaves a harsh and bitter after-taste. Sorry, but no more Newminster for me. Read Less
