It would be nearly impossible to speak of the history of Barbados without mentioning rum. Many historians argue rum originated as a by product of sugar refining on the tiny island. The profitable refining industry, in turn, spawned magnificent plantations. Consequently rum became a much sought after trading commodity between Barbados, the American colonies and Europe. Supposedly George Washington demanded a hogshead of Barbados Rum, 64 gallons, to be served at his inauguration. Only the highest quality Barbados Rum is applied to a base of Burley, Virginia, and Black Cavendish.
This is hands down one of the tastiest blends I've ever had. I happen this like rum so I'm probably a little biased there however. The taste is a combination of rum and vanilla and that translates to the room note as well. A word of caution tho, this... Read More one will bite if rushed so take your time! Read Less
Love this as much as the Molto Dolce. Not as sweet as MD. But same rich smoke, easy burn maintenance. Silky smooth across the tongue, no bite. A real pleasure sitting on the front porch in the Endless Mountains Pa. Aaaahhhh!
I was a dedicated smoker of a 50/50 mixture of Molto Dolce and Maple Street. Barbados Plantation was recommended to me by a fellow smoker. I tried it straight and mixed with Molto Dolce. If Molte Dolce is a little too much, give this a whirl. It’s a great Sutliff aro. Definitely a very sweet aromatic.
Tin note is enchanting. Tobacco is very moist, I've had it setting out uncovered for 48 hours thus far and hasn't seemed to want to dry any.
As is, it is smoking dry though. Richness of flavor and a nice heavy smoke... Read More, the rum flavor takes front and center and remains there. Room note matches the tin note - very pleasing, almost delectable. Burns surprisingly cool for a blend that obviously has a lot of top dressing. No bite, with a nice clean aftertaste that lingers pleasantly. Silvery grey ash, burns right down to the bottom. Doesn't seem to over-heat, even when pushed a bit. Slower smoking definitely brings out more flavor though. True for most all blends - very true with this one. Not a lot of tobacco flavor coming through, but enough to keep my attention.
I'm not a big smoker of aromatics, but, I'll probably keep this one around for those times I want something sweet.
Thus far, every Sutliff I have tried has been pleasing, some extremely pleasing. This one falls into the extremely pleasing, for an aromatic category. For the price and quality, it's a 5 star aromatic. Read Less

For me, this is a decent aromatic. I let a tin sit in the modest cellar for a couple months. Popped it open and it was still extremely damp. The tin note is amazing, one of the best you'll find: sugars, rum, hints of vanilla, wow! If you don't dry it much, get ready to relight often as your pipe feels more like work than relaxing. There's a happy medium where you give it 30 minutes to dry, leave it mildly moist, and enjoy hints of the flavors you got from the tin notes, with a little relighting and work put into it. I won't buy again, it just doesn't have the sugary rum taste I crave in a smoke like this. I will say that the first half of the bowl is a bit like smoking air (not many flavors, not a satisfying smoke), but the bottom half is where you get some flavors and richer, more satisfying white smoke. It's not bad, it's just really light and the flavor is really hard to find most of the time. If you like aros with hardly any nicotine and light flavors, you should probably check it out.
