as remarkable or sweet as Penzance, and the Latakia in #1 is in noticeably stronger proportions than the former. Penzance places an emphasis on the sweetness of the VA, followed by an ever so slight and finessed verdant spice of Orientals, and lastly the Latakia is supportive and never overwhelming. Sure, the burley lends a little body to #1, and perhaps that's what's causing this to be so bland. A cinnamon roll without sugar is still a cinnamon roll, but that doesn't mean it's a GOOD cinnamon roll. #1 just falls short of many, many other English. It's bland, a bit cellulosic at times and not in the least bit sweet. Consider Pease's Westminster... now that's a sweet flavored English that if pressed into a flake could easily pass for Penzance. Want something even better than Westminster and you crave latakia? Star of the East Flake... that's the pinnacle. Sorry Sutliff... I'm not a fan of the flavor, but I do like the loose flake, so a 1/2 star for that. I'll bear down and finish the first tin, but the second will most likely collect dust for well over a decade. This seems to embrace all things English blend. Tin note mild and floral. You can smoke this straight out of tin. Smoke is very smooth and creamy. I’ll be buying more of this.

me together.(Update) I admit was not impressed after the first flake was gone but....after that this blend got better after every bowl. Start to finish a great consistent flavor and mild English. This has become a favorite in the on the go Lovat the flavor really seems to shine in this pipe and after 2 tins has become an all time favorite dispite the lack of heavy flavor I usually go for. Pretty good english. I’m almost through the tin and it took me a while but for me, it developed from a good but mediocre english Blend to one of my favorites. And I like the loose flake cut too. Very good!

othing medium English blends I have ever had. The red virginias from Sutliff are always flavorful - hay, grass, bready, a bit raisiny. A very nice burley gives it structure and ensures a slow, cool burn. Choice latakia gives it definition. And just a bit of oriental leaf is sprinkled in as a zesty condiment. If you don’t taste the orientals right away, smoke more slowly and allow them to develop. SCK English #1 is best enjoyed right at the edge of extinguishment.
