Great Outdoors - Sutliff Private Stock

Product: Sutliff Great Outdoors 1.5oz
First I "Luv" Sutliff blends, such as Maple-Walnut(MW) and Rum&Maple(R&M), so when Sutliff Private Stock blends went on sale I grabbed some. Great Outdoors(GO) greated me with the odors of Burley, Black Cavendish, and Vitgina's; t... Read More
opped with licroish. The blend was a liitle damp and took a few hours to dry. The topping burned off quickly, leaving me an almost pure tobacco smoke. It makes for a great "Change of Pace" from MW and R&M, well worth adding to my rotation. Lastly "She" said it was pleasant smelling. Read Less
Not Great... but Not Bad

There's so many other, better blends out there. If you crave the anise and birch root, seek Mixture No 79,
It's better than this in that regard, and much sweeter than Great Outdoors. This has a moderately stronger anise and perhaps a little yellow... Read More
birch flavoring to differentiate it from others, though not as strong as No 79. It lacks depth. It has some broken flaked pieces of burley in there too. Good room note and light bodied. There's something else in the room note... I've smelled it in the ACID cigar line too.. something botanical and almost perfumed. The finish leaves a lingering freshness with a light sweetness. Not one I'll reorder and a prime example of a blend smoked one time and the last time. Nicotine is 1 out of 5. Read Less

Lights well and smokes cool. Clean, inoffensive but unremarkable. Faint notes of vanilla, butternut, toast, and summer leaves.

I was looking forward to trying this blend for awhile. I was attracted by the "Burley, Black Cavendish and Virginia" components.
Unfortunately I somehow overlooked the "anise/licorice" comments.

I am only two bowls in, but I don't see taking a third. It also severely ghosted my pipe. I may end up dumping the rest. At least it was inexpensive. Read Less

Product: Sutliff Great Outdoors 1.5oz
In my opinion, this is the best of this series from Sutliff. Great Outdoors has a wonderful burley flavor profile with hints of anise, wood, nuts and earthiness. I absolutely love this blend.
A nice blend

This is a good modern alternate for the old Field and Stream. I actually prefer this over the Sutliff F&S Match. The anise flavoring is done well without being overbearing. As others have said it's a top notch OTC burley forward blend.

Aromatics tend to get a bad rap but I always believe there is a good and bad in any category. This is a very good example of an aro. The tin note is woodsy with a nice anise/licorice sent (which I love and not every does) and gives it that "root beer... Read More
" aroma. The tobacco in tin isn't a saturated mess, in fact its quite dry compared to other coated ribbons. It lights easy and stays lit when packed right. The room note is pleasant, woody, and a slight sweetness that isn't overpowering. You get more of the vanilla in flavor with the licorice taking a backseat. Again subtle sweetness and not overdone. Sipping slow you will taste the burley come through. I will be keeping this in my rotation and will definitely be accompanying me on some camping trips. Read Less

A very interesting and understated blend. Great textured cut. Good dryness. Not cloying with only a subtle sweetness. And a great root beer aroma. Just an all-around remarkable blend.

Well the tin more is probably the coolest part about this blend. To me it reminds me of root beer. The tobacco itself burns well and if sipped slowly you will get the nutty taste of the burley with a bit of the topping. It’s overall just average and... Read More

This blend has a bold taste of vanilla and anise, almost like candy but without being sickly sweet. It almost tastes like a gourmet version of Mixture no. 79 (which I like). My tin was fairly moist; you may need to let it sit a couple hours before li... Read More

Product: Sutliff Great Outdoors 1.5oz
This is a good, simple, straight forward, burley blend, the casing is used with discretion and offers some to the overall profile but does not make the tobacco overly moist or goopy. It certainly has that character of the old classic drug store blend... Read More
s of yesteryear but would be " top shelf". I purchased the tin because it was on a very low price clearence but have found that I have returned to it on several occasions because it is so comfortable.
Upon opening the tin you are rewarded with the sweet aroma of the topping and the tobacco, the cut is somewhat coarse and chunky. If were not for the diameter of the tin being too small the blend would certainly invite thrust and pack method of loading the pipe and I found this to work very well when the tobacco was tranfered to a pouch.
The initial light does offer some sweetness but is not too sweet, as you progress in the smoke the sweetness does give way to, as others have noted, a peppery experience. Not bad! Not overly complex, and by no means hot. Just very comfortable.
The nic hit seems to be somewhat minimal.
The room note is pleasent enough, I heard no complaints but I also had no real compliments either.
I would say that even though I have returned to this current tin often enough. recently reordered Read Less

El sabor del Virginia hace recordar una tarde tranquila en el campo. Es una fumada suave, ligera y relativamente fría. En particular a mí me gusta, aunque Sutliff tiene mejores. La compraría de nuevo.
