I am a predominantly aromatic smoker and I really enjoy this blend. The first time I tried it, I was unsure of it because of the complexity of the blend. However, after smoking a few bowls of it, I have to say it has grown on me. I normally tend to smoke vanilla flavored aromatics but the maple on this is not overpowering by any means. Also, not to ruffle any feathers but I have found that most people who do not like aromatics and complain about tongue bite are typically those that are smoking too quickly. It has a delicious maple flavor but not very sweet, perfect balance in my opinion. Burns great, I barely have to relight if at all. The room note is a little too strong, and my wife isn’t a big fan of the after smell it leaves on me, which is saying something cause she likes most pipe tobaccos smells. She says it smells more like I smoked a cigar than my pipe. But other than my wife’s comments this is probably one of the best aromatics I’ve smoked! The only problem is I only bought a 2oz sample bag to try at the local B&M and now I cnt find it in stock anywhere....Read More

Just reopened my jar of the original release a couple of weeks ago, and am enjoying it more than I did last year. On the whole the blend tastes more integrated, the DFK is a bit less harsh and the topping seems more complementary than an addition, if that makes sense. I’m no expert on identifying flavors-casings, top notes, etc.-and that’s because I typically shy away from aromatics like liberals shy away from the unmasked. As an almost exclusive VaPer snob, I will say this blend is a nice change of pace. It’s not very complex, and it’s rather smooth and quite smoky. The maple note it light and allows the base leaf to shine and intermingled with the maple notes in a delightful way. Autumn Evening is more maple and the Red Virginia doesn't get to share the stage the way the Dark Fired Kentucky does with Maple Shadows. I will order it next fall if it's offered again....Read More

Great Fall Smoke

This is a nice change of pace and a great smoke when it's cool outside. The maple flavoring is present at the beginnings but seems to fade a little over half way. It has a pleasing aroma. It's not an all day smoke as it is a little on the strong side.

Great aromatic that they should make a regular option

Honestly, I was worried with such a huge tin, that it wouldn't hold up over time. I've had 1.75oz aromatic tins open for a month that lost flavor by the end. I've been dipping in every day for the last two months and I am just now halfway through the tin and the flavor is still holding strong. And they did it without making it a goopy mess. Kudos. As to that flavor, it's definitely toward the strong side of medium, the maple is very prominent and distinct, there's no question it is there, it is not subtle, but it doesn't completely overpower the burley taste and actually mixes with it very well. The woody flavor of the dark-fired burley and maple flavors go so well together. It doesn't run hot (as should be expected as it's just ODF and Cavendish) and doesn't bite or get rough. It's a shame this was a limited release, I wish it was a regular production blend. Hopefully they'll bring it back again next fall....Read More
