Product: Cornell & Diehl Bayou Morning Flake 2oz
First of all: this pairs extremely well with a good, hot, black morning coffee, BUT, for the love of God, have breakfast. 3 eggs, a steak, bacon, potatoes, sausage, beans and toast. The whole thing. A full bowl of this on an empty stomach -will- knoc... Read More
k you out and make you cry like a b**ch, you'll call your mom and say you're sorry. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Tin note was of dark fruits and wet wood. Room note was of straight, manly, strong tobacco. Taste was spicy and fruity, but all-natural, it was a very fine smoke and I gave the rest of my tin to a cigarette smoking friend to get him into pipe smoking, and it worked! Even his roomates want to get in on it! Read Less
Perique lovers dream

Product: Cornell & Diehl Bayou Morning Flake 8oz
This is one of the best Virginia/Perique blends I have ever smoked. Upon opening the tin you get a wonderful bready, earthy, spice. It presents more as a broken flake and is easy to rub out or fold and stuff. It has been my experience that this blend... Read More
needs little to no drying time and can be smoked right out of the tin immediately and should be jarred immediately after opening or it will become bone dry very quickly. During the smoke you are presented with a delicious experience of earthy, bready, tangy Virginia and red and black pepper spice from the perique. Careful with the retro-hale as it is all pepper and doesn't apologize. Now let's talk nicotine. You are going to want to smoke this blend after having a big breakfast or brunch and it pairs well with coffee or iced tea. You are going to want to also take your time as the nicotine comes on strong, straight from the full belly feel to the sweats and if you push past that, well we know what comes next. I highly recommend this blend and would suggest cellaring it as it can only get better with age. Read Less

My Go To Morning Flake

Product: Cornell & Diehl Bayou Morning Flake 2oz
I absolutely love this tobacco. As a big fan of Perique, I had to try this one with the advertised 25% Perique content. The tin note upon opening hits you with predominately fermented plums, but also some hay from the Virginias as well. A broken f... Read More
lake, I tend to rub this one out a tad and dry it out just a little before packing. Flavor on this one is plums, pepper, and grass with a touch of honey. I tend to enjoy this with a cup of coffee in the morning...the nicotine hit on this one is a good wake up and the bold flavor of the high Perique content balances well with a bold cup of coffee. Or maybe I'm just being swayed with "morning" being in the name? Currently my favorite tobacco in my rotation, I'm definitely going to stock up on this one. Read Less
Strong as an Ox

Product: Cornell & Diehl Bayou Morning Flake 2oz
BMF is a delightfully strong blend, both in flavor and in nicotine content. If I were to compare it to any food, it'd be a giant steak, crusted with fresh cracked pepper. The tin note alone is an experience—aromas of dried figs, roasted nuts, and fre... Read More
sh honey delight the olfactories. These variegated dark brown (broken) flakes are moist and rub out easily; their cut width and light compression are unmistakably C&D. The flavor is strong and peppery, and it's consistently so throughout the pipe. The Old Belt Red Virginias aren't bready and hay-like as you find in lighter Virginias; they're savory, rich, and robust in flavor—something seasoned pipers are bound to enjoy. BMF's 25% Perique content also lends the flavor many positive characteristics typical of the unique component. It's right on the verge of being too much—just enough to make a radically bold flavor profile. The flavors and sensations of the Perique come through clearly, not muted in any way. The two components compliment one another perfectly. Naturally, the large amount of Perique makes this a very strong blend nicotine-wise. Contrary to what its name may suggest, it's more of an afternoon or after-dinner smoke. If you're not used to nicotine, it'll turn you into a boiled frog. Even the well-initiated piper will likely find this blend too strong for an "all day smoke". As with most all blends, flavor improves with age. I smoked my first tin over a nine month period, and the flavor got a little smoother, but no less bold. My overall opinion? This is excellent stuff; its strength will surprise even the most seasoned smoker, and its bold flavor profile will satisfy even the most demanding palette. Read Less

ation consisted of mostly Virginia or Vaper with a few exceptions, but typically if you find me with a pipe, it will most often be of these types of mixtures. I've been a pipe smoker since 1979, and 1000's of blends have been commited to the atmosphere by me.
Through the gereousty of a friend in the Atlanta Pipe Smokers Club, I've even sampled Percy Martin Perique, several ounces of it. He had ordered a pound and didn't really know what to do other than offer it up for those interested. I've chewed it, I've smoked it in pure form and mixed it with Virginias in various ratios. I'm what you might call a Perique Freak, I just love the stuff!
Cornell & Diehl: Bayou Morning Flake pairs very fine Old Belt Red Virginia in a staggering ratio of 25% Perique. The room note is incredible, complex, warm and smells of rum cake (the Jamaican Holiday cake) and cinnamon rolls. The burn is even and cool no matter whether you fold and stuff, rub it out, ball it up and insert. Lighting is a one match affair, yielding a wonderful, smooth, complex and stronger smoke that just satisfies me as nothing else.

m, though. You could smoke just about anything after it without having affected your palate much. Maybe that’s what makes it a morning blend?
I wonder if some reviews are biased in knowing that there is 25% Perique. Maybe it’s because the smoke is more powerful on the nose than the tongue. Or maybe it’s because it doesn’t taste like a typical morning smoke. No idea. Most likely just a matter of preference. Fine by me for a day’s first smoke.
