For their Green River Vanilla, the folks at C&D took Burley from the Green River Valley of Kentucky, fire cured and expertly blended it to be mellow and smooth, and flavored it with an outstanding vanilla.
This, without a doubt, is the goopiest, moistest tobacco I have ever encountered. That said, I'm an impatient fellow and loaded the black slop into my pipe without drying. Surprisingly, it burned just fine with very little steam or goop in my pipe! I... This BC has the worst consistency of any black, wet leaf I have ever smoked. Oh sure, they’re all a little goopy, but this stuff is actually viscous, even slimy. Read Moread no problems inhaling C&D’s Green River Vanilla BC - and it doesn’t taste bad, or leave a weird mouthfeel afterward. You could probably even eat it, I baked mine in the oven for a while on a sheet of wax paper, low heat. It dries out ok. It still leaves an oily film that lingers longer than any other on the fingertips after handing. The guy that said it’s motor oil really, really wasn’t kidding. It is decent enough dried out and mixed with lots of other things, a bit like Newminster’s Danish Black - nice and raw but still flavorful and fragrant. The first couple of times I tried this I left it out for a while to dry and it was okay. It tasted good, but tended to burn hot and get goopy. I remembered another reviewer mentioning that they had packed it straight out of the tin, I was a little skeptical, but figured I'd give it a go. I am so glad I did! Much more flavorful, smooth, and creamy! The plumes of smoke were so thick and satisfying, there was no over heating and the bottom of the pack was somehow less goopy than when I had dried the tobacco a bit first. The tin note is a bit overpowering, however, if I have scraps left on my prep board it will smell like I lit a nice scented candle. The room note is heavenly, I have yet to find anyone that dislikes it. This is my new daily pack. If I do ever want a little more flavor, or want to cut the creaminess, I've taken to packing some of G.L. Pease's Stratford blend on top. This tobacco is fantastic, I am new and did not have any problems with it. I love how the vanilla flavor is there without being too sweet. This is a fantastic balance of flavor and I will be ordering more of this as it is on my top 3 favorite list.
This came quite wet in the bag (I’ve noticed this with other C&D cavendish blends) and it had a subtle sweet smell. The flavor is definitively vanilla and yummy after drying out the bag for quite a while.

I found it impossible to finish a bowl. The can, impossible to finish in much the same way. To be fair, straight cavendish has never been my jam really. That said, the C&D version is delicious to the end. I found myself shocked when i got to the end of the bowl. It starts out like any VBC but with a better flavour overall. The difference really, is how it finishes. Like any VBC, it's mild as it gets- steamy even, great aroma. Sweet. Won't burn the mouth. It helps to char the bowl and then leave it for a day, maybe even store it in a non airtight container. You could zap it (just a bowl worth) in the microwave a few seconds to dry it out.. It's best as dry as possible. Leave it to C&D to take the most ubiquitous american pipe staple and completely reinvent it. Better even than McClelland's. As a lover of all things vanilla, I bet I'll actually smoke the occasional bowl of this here and there. The "apricots & cream" version is also pretty great.. Read Less
