Delicious Reds

Product: Cornell & Diehl Red Virginia Ribbon Bulk
I was looking for a "replacement" for 5100 (as a lot of us have had to do), and I do believe I've found my new daily puff. It has a very good flavor, with many of the old belt attributes ~ especially about half way down the bowl. A mellow, ... Read More
earthy flavor and aroma, with a decent nicotine content. This is a solid red virginia blend; so let's hope this isn't going to go "up in smoke" like so many other red virginias right now. Very tasty stuff. Read Less
Unadulterated VA Goodness

Product: Cornell & Diehl Red Virginia Ribbon Bulk
Purchased for blending. Like most of the other c&d blending tobaccos this comes at a low moisture level out of the sealed bag, and is ready for blending immediately if desired. No casing or topping means pure red VA flavor and aroma, with deeper... Read More
grass and hay notes than the bright VA and some sweetness as well. As states in the description this ages well, and with only a couple months in the jar at the same moisture level it came as, my jar had a lot.going on for only 2 months. When I popped the seal a burst of gases filled my nostrils with sweet and sour hay notes immediately. I can't wait to see what 6 months brings. I really want to get 5 pounds of this stuff so I can have a few pounds aging at all.times... soon. By itself it smokes great, with no relights, a fast burn rate, no bite, and good flavor. I love it as is, but I love it even more as a blender. Thanks to c&ds exceptional red VA and Latakia (really all.of their blending tobacco), I've been able to blend up some truly wonderful English mixtures. I can't get enough. I just started pressing my first quarter kilo batch of my best English blend yet. I can't wait to see what 3 weeks of pressing will.do for it. Ty c&d for the quality raw materials Read Less

It has depth and body and displays all the Virginia properties you could expect in a tobacco with these characteristics.

Sticks & Powder

Product: Cornell & Diehl Red Virginia Ribbon Bulk
The leaf itself deserves a full 5 stars. Rich with the flavors of hay and tangy cider, this is pure, quality Red Virginia, and it doesn’t get any tastier than this so fresh. Smokes smooth, cool, and bite-free on its own, and has a fairly modest kick ... Read More
of nicotine. It arrived quite dry, but it hydrated nicely. When it arrived, I applied roughly 3mL of water to an ounce and a half, mixed it in the bag, and let it sit overnight. The problem is, I had ordered 2 ounces - roughly half an ounce of the weight consisted of a fine powder that I had to sift off the intact ribbons, and three disappointingly large stems (one of which was almost 7cm long and had the thickness of a muddling straw.) My advice, since this is such an excellent tobacco - try a tin first. C&D tins usually have perfect moisture levels (which means no powder) and fewer stems. Then, buy a pound in bulk if it suits you - the 1lb bags tend to have better moisture content, far less powder, and any large stems found within them will seem more unavoidable than disappointing. Fine for Blending

This leaf has your expected dark fruity, tangy/acidic notes expected with a red virginia. I also noticed some vinegar and earthy and a slight spice occasionally. The moisture level came just about perfect and it leaves little moisture at the end of t... Read More

This Virginia is excellent out of the tin, but I just got a 3 year aged tin it tasted very mild and sweet. A great tobacco to blend with.

After mulling on some of the reviews around the traps, I bought some of this. The first bowl was fairly good. Everything after it was terrible. One of the worst tasting blends I've ever had. So I bought some Sutliff 515 RC-1 and did a half and ha... Read More

Poor blend

When I first smoked this I thought it was good. On the second bowl, I thought it was crapola.
So I got some Sutliff 515 RC-1 and mixed it half and half. And now I've smoked that, it could use a bit more 515.
However, there are way, way better red... Read More

I was ready to not like this based on reviews on another site, but I have been very pleased. I think it will age beautifully however it isn't bad at all now. Upon first light there is some cigarette aroma; very good cigarette aroma, but it's there ... Read More
nonetheless. The aroma in the bag is really nice, the typical hay/grass smell, and it smokes that way as well. I am EXTREMELY sensitive to nicotine, and I did notice it toward the end of the bowl but it wasn't problematic for me like some blends are. It's naturally sweet with a nice developing aroma, but it definitely lacks the depth and nuance I normally associate with Virginias. It's isn't - by any stretch - 5100 nor is it McCraine's Red Ribbon, but it is most decent in its own right. I could easily see cutting a Sutliff aromatic with this, or using it as a nice base for a homemade English blend, mild to stout. I am hopeful that with age it will turn into something special.
Go with Sutliff’s red ribbon bulk instead.

Good Quality Leaf

Product: Cornell & Diehl Red Virginia Ribbon Bulk
The taste profile is more earthy than citrusy, and can pack quite a wallop. The quality is off the charts and can be cellared.
