Cornell & Diehl: Hearthside 2oz Pipe Tobacco

Product Number: 003-016-0340

Cornell & Diehl's Wintertime Reserve: Hearthside is a complex, smoky crossover blend of select Virginias and Latakia, layered with notes of dark chocolate and vanilla. Pressed and sliced into delicate flakes. Perfect for sipping by the fire with a wee dram.

A special, seasonal extension of the Small Batch line, all four Wintertime Reserve blends are crafted by hand, one small batch at a time, from recipes specially selected by head blender Jeremy Reeves. From a fragrant aromatic to English and Virginia staples, all these blends are pressed and cut into either flakes or old-fashioned crumble cakes, and packaged in special, festive tin art.

As a pipe smoker of just over 3 years now, I've learned I primarily like two families of blends, English, and Virginia. One of my favorite blends of all time was Samuel Gawith Navy Flake. Now I'm not saying that this blend is a substitute for that tr... Read More
Bland, Stale Latakia Flavor

Product: Cornell & Diehl Hearthside 2oz
I tried to like this blend. After a couple of smokes, all I really got was a stale latakia flavor with some bitter chocolate aroma. I'll never have a reason to smoke more of this, with so many other good latakia blends in my cellar. I tossed the tin ... Read More

This tobacco is a nice smoke all the way through, though slight harshness if not careful but that is occasionally welcomed by me. In my opinion this is a good tobacco and I will continue to keep this in my rotation.
Great all day smoke!

I’m surprised at those who say it is stale. I have finished 5 tins since first getting it 2019 and have cellared many more. I think it’s a great transition blend when not in the mood for full English, aros-cased or uncased, vapers, plain ole virginia... Read More

Normally, I am a strict devotee of English Blends, especially those heavy with Latakia. I NEVER smoke aromatics/flavored tobaccos and Virginia blends failed to satisfy my tastes.... Until now! Hearyhside is a well balanced, easy on the tongue with ju... Read More
Stale, Bitter, Sour... NOT Sweet in the Least.

Product: Cornell & Diehl Hearthside 2oz
The cocoa is detectable and is one of unsweetened chocolate. I didn't get the vanilla, but I did pick up a little alcohol of sorts. The VA lacks sugar and is sour and stale. The latakia is minor and contributes to a stale flavor profile of the mix... Read More

Product: Cornell & Diehl Hearthside 2oz
Strong smells of chocolate, nutmeg, and vanilla once you pop open the tin. The smoke is not nearly as strong as the topping. Standard grassy Virginias with a slightly sweet and woodsy Latakia. Would not write home about it but will write a review... Read More
Interesting Aromatic for the Latakia-Curious
January 03, 2020
Product: Cornell & Diehl Hearthside 2oz
This blend is pretty nice, for what it is: a mellow, sweet, strongly-aromatic Virginia flake with a dab of Latakia added. In the tin, this blend comes as a soft flake of yellow and medium Virginias. Very easy to rub out to a soft cloud. Tin note is ... Read More
