THE All-Day English Blend
July 22, 2017
Product: G. L. Pease Piccadilly 2oz
One of my favorite G.L. Pease blends, and it was the first of many English blends I tried when I began smoking a pipe. After smoking it every morning for an entire summer, I still go back to it constantly; therefore I've revised this review. Piccadil... Read More
ly is a well-balanced blend, with all the component tobaccos noticeable in the right proportions, albeit in a rather low-key fashion. Upon opening the tin, the Latakia note is strong, but it's content is rather low; just enough to let the Perique shine through. The Virginia flavors are savory and on the grassy side, lending it body. The three components create a flavor all their own instead of being outwardly noticeable on their own. The casing, as with most G.L. Pease blends, is light. There are very mild notes of a honey & citrus topping, as mentioned by others. Absolutely nothing is overpowering here, yet it's got a lot of flavor—leave it to Greg to create such blends! The balance of flavors is just right, nothing is harsh, and the nicotine level is appropriately low. This is very similar to Greg's newer blend called Trafalgar with Drucquer & Sons; carrying a similar flavor profile and namesake. For fans of old world style Englishes, this is certainly worth trying. Read Less
All Day Smoker

Touting a honeyed tin note and flavor, Picadilly refuses to offend. A liitle bit of perique pepper and a dash of latakia earthiness, outstanding Virginias. This is that many others try to emulate.
A Rare Breed

Piccadilly is a staple in my puffing rotation. It defies classification in the same that C&D's Plantation Evening resists simple labeling. The tin aroma welcomes with the immediate tingling piquant of the Perique with only a hint of Latakia in the s... Read More
niff. The blend of the Virginias and Perique really make this blend interesting, and the light touch of Latakia adds a bit of smokey sweetness that plays well with the Virgnias. Hard to say how much of the citrusy tang comes from Virginias or the Perique, but the blending of the two creates a nice foundation for the trace amount of Latakia. For me, this is what Dunhill EMP and C&D would want to be when they grow up. This could be an all day smoke, but I think it is best enjoyed as the occasional pipe a day when you have time to enjoy its complexity and depth of flavors. I do tend to smoke this in the morning (as suggested by the description), but only after having finished going through all of my emails and preparing work for the day. For that I smoke through a bowl or two of EMP. I then have time to enjoy this blend with a last cuppa before the work day begins. Highly recommended. Read Less

First light - a very sweet and creamy smoke will welcome your palate. It will be consistant untill about half of the bowl, which in this point I no longer detect any flavor what so ever..

This has a super pleasant flavor, a non-sugary sweet spice. The prior reviews are spot on.
In the cellar it goes!

This blend started off good, just like any Latakia forward english style, but at the half way point it becomes flavourless and you might as well be smoking a bowl of black pepper. It’s not often I dump a bowl at the half way point, but I couldn’t sta... Read More

Not too heavy on either Latakia or Perique, great balance. Easy ribbon cut packs and burns like a champ. All day smoke.
Nice change of pace from English!

This one smokes as spicy as an English, without the woodiness, to me it was more like cinnamon, than citrus and cinnamon, the citrus was more subtle, the spiciness was great, not bad at all! No bite, either! A great one for breakfast or lunch!
