leasant, almond chocolate (to me) nose. It sets the stage for the first bowl of the day. After that I find it to light easily. I have not encountered any extra wetness that a previous reader had. I stays lit for a slow bowl. Taste and strength are mild, about as the overall review rating suggest. I like the aroma... I would give it 3 stars rather than the 1 star room note shown on the site.
Overall, I like the tobacco... I will add another couple of tins to replace this one and extend the collection to the next four years. Read Less

Love this blend but I don’t usually smoke it straight. I usually put a pinch of this in with other blends. A pinch of this seems to bring out the flavor of what you are blending it with.

very soppy, sticky wet. Even the paper liner was saturated on the bottom. I dumped it out on to a paper towel and put another one on top of it and pressed on it. I did this a few times before it stopped absorbing the goop. I tried smoking it, but couldn't keep it lit. What taste I did achieve from keeping a flame on it was half decent, but I really couldn't smoke it. I don't know if this tin was an isolated incident or not, or if the Black version has overkill with what it's flavored with. Like I said, what flavor I did get wasn't bad, but I couldn't smoke it enough to give it a fair review. That's why I gave it at least 2 stars. No complaints about Mac Baren tobacco at all.....just this one tin. Read Less

This needs a bump up in both taste and room note. Beautiful bouquet from the first draw till the last. Reminds me of walking into grandpa’s house who left his tobacco bag open to fill the area with the sweet aroma.

Classic easy going mild Mac Baren armomatic. Dark fruits and cream combine for a nice mild smoke with no tongue bite. Life doesn’t always have to be complex, this tobacco reminds you to sit back and smell the roses.

This is very straightforward cavendish. It has slight sweetness, liquor notes for sure. Personally i like to add latakia to it (50/50) mix or adding to an English mixture to make a English Aromatic.

Awesome tin note, really good. The taste is a bit lacking, not muck of the toppings go into the taste, but it's not bad. Decent smoke smell for the ones around you. Could not get it to bite, compared to the royal. Nice blend all in all.

Smooth, no bite, and a light sweet flavor. Makes for an easy comfortable smoking experience. This is a favorite after dinner smoke for me while sipping on a bit of bourbon and relaxing.

There's no way I can say this was a bad tobacco, but it simply isn't the best I've had. It has an excellent room note, but the flavor is barely there, and getting it to burn properly requires some amount of patience.

order of my preference with the most preferred first. Of course these are just my opinions after smoking pipes for 30 years; yours may be entirely different.
1. Mac Baren Seven Seas Black --- No bite, good flavor while and after smoking, good room aroma.
2. Macbaren HH Old Dark Fire Ready Rubbed --- No bite, good flavor while and after smoking, good room aroma. Takes a little handling to prep for smoking.
3. Sutliff (Altadis) B37 Casanova --- No bite, good generic flavor while and after smoking, good steady burn, and good room aroma.
4. Lane Limited BC-A --- Good but not quite as flavorful as the Mac Barens or Sutliff Casanova nor as good a room aroma. There is no bite and a mild aftertaste. It is a little more difficult to keep lit.
5. Sutliff (Altadis) Classic Chocolate --- Nice aroma and a little more flavor than Sutliff coffee tobbaco. Burns fine and little bite. Lingering vague aftertaste.
6. Gawaith Hoggarth & Co. Kendal Dark --- The small ribbon burns well and does not bite, but it has little flavor, aftertaste or aroma.
7. Newminister No. 201 Straight Black --- Mild aroma. Little flavor or bite. Burns fine.
8. Sutliff (Altadis) 203 Coffee --- No taste or aroma of coffee. Ashy flavor. Not good to my taste buds or tongue; some bite. It burned fine.
9. Cornell & Diehl Dark Chocolate --- No taste or aroma of chocolate. Ashy flavor. Not good to my taste buds or tongue; some bite. It burned fine. Read Less

To be sure, I use this now to cut back the sweetness of Lane's RLP-6, a blend I found to be far too sweet on its own for my liking, but together in equal measure, they make for a very fine afternoon.
