One of the first tobaccos I ever smoked when I started pipe smoking 44 years ago was Mac Baren's Burley London Blend. I was so disappointed after it was discontinued but very happy to have been able to purchase it again! Thank you Mac Baren.

It’s finally back from a five year hiatus! If you’ve never tried this one you haven’t tried Burley. Not sure why it was called London Blend, but ok. Creamy chocolate Burley tobacco. One of the very best Burley pipe tobaccos ever.

ith their OTHER products - tired of wasting money and fighting the bite. Chasing the allure of a product simply because it’s a small release, ‘bit’ me as well. Their HH Burely Flake is the standard, the pinnacle of Burley, so why bother with an inferior burley? ied and creamy with hints of coa coa and moderate vanilla. This is not an aromatic. These notes are soft and mostly disappear by mid bowl. The taste is slightly chocolate nuttieness sweetened ever so slightly by the small amount of Virginia in this blend. Pure burley alchemy. ed with how hot my bowl became with the smoking of this tobacco. My first experience was with a Castello billiard with substantial walls and the next with a Dunhill shilling with conical walls measuring a half inch. Actually the bowls were too hot to hold and so I held the pipe by the stem. I smoked this tobacco in the same fashion as my traditional English blends.
The mouth feel was not particularly hot, though I was somewhat surprised as well at the rapid burn of the tobacco.
The best thing about this experience was that it brought me back to my grandfather, who I blame for making pipes a big part of my life. Smelling his pipes and tobacco (kept moist with an apple slice) was an ever-present part of my childhood. Read Less

ers for the re-issue and immediately returned 19 of them, which I very much appreciated Smoking pipes cooperation. I had to use my imagination to taste any chocolate notes in the original. My first two or three pipes of the re-issue made me this I was smoking a candy bar. I can well believe every ones taste is not the same, but? I very much want to order 10 of this reissue but the last one overwhelmed that desire. This was an instant favourite. Tin aroma is very sweet, clearly some added flavour, but the tobacco blend is very solid, and utterly delicious. Like dark chocolate, with a little sweetening. This has quickly become my daily go-to.

a few extra relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild, with notes of chocolate, which hangs out in the background. I smelled vanilla in the tin note but couldn't detect in taste. Taste is mild to medium and consistent, with notes of very wood, musty vegetation, bitter dryness, leather, molasses, cocoa, nuts, mildly spicy, toasted bread, earth, mildly grassy, a semi-sweet background note, and a peppery retro. I was excited with the tin note, nice chocolatey, and rich tobacco aromas. I just had a feeling it would be good. I gave it 15 min drying time, packed a bowl, and puffed like a freight train and enjoyed every puff. It burns very well. There was a slight, bite, but barely felt it, and it went away quickly. If I sip slower, I guarantee next session will not bite. The Burley is nutty, and rich, as well as bold. just a good, natural tobacco taste, while nicely topped with a chocolatey treat that elevates the entire profile and experience. I almost want to pick up more, we shall see. If you havent had this, give it a try while it is still in stock, you may not love it, but I am pretty sure you will enjoy it. great with coffee! And while Mac Baren’s London Blend may not be deemed an aromatic, that chocolate flavor nevertheless is quite dominant, admit it. Mac Baren’s London Blend is like a cousin to Solani’s Aged Burley Flake, though probably a notch lower in quality, and I believe milder and sweeter in its chocolate taste (Solani’s ABF has many coffee tones, too). MBLB is as close to sipping Kahlua as I’ve found in smoking a pipe tobacco blend, but I happen to appreciate chocolate and chocolate tones in pipe tobacco, and I am a dyed-in-the-wool burley aficionado, so for me this is one grand treat.
I missed the blend when it was discontinued, and always wished I stocked some in my cellar. When I happened to receive a surprise email from the Smokingpipes crew, I leaned in hard. Some might deem it a bit aggressive but I secured 11 tins over the next week. Enough to sip from every once in a while over the next decade.
If Mac Baren’s business acumen is as shrewd as I think it is, they will launch another limited release of this “discontinued” blend in a year or two via Smokingpipes! 4.5 stars Read Less

like making a too-many-choices-this-early-in-the-morning "what should i have today" decision. Generally I stick to Virginias, VA/PERs and navy flakes. But after watching one of my favorite YouTube channel presenters wax on nostalgic about this stuff and, knowing it had been discontinued, after opening that sometimes brow-raising email from the boys at SP.com I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered 2 tins to start. After trying it...well, let's put it this way; a few days later I quickly ordered 3 more tins.
