th toasty Virginias and flavors of nuttiness and grain. The DFK is clearly boosting the flavor here but is not forward - a mark of a well-considered blend. Perique steps up in the finish to put an exclamation point on the smoke, with a perfect level of peppery snap on the retrohale. The burn is good but, not surprisingly, requires some care to keep temps within bounds. In short, this is not your ordinary VaPer; it is a deft blend that showcases the Mac Baren sense of proportion. I would love to see this one move into regular production. PS: I've tried a few Mac Baren blends, including Mixture Scottish, Mixture Modern Danish, Original Choice, HH Old Dark Fired, and the MB-produced Newminster Danish Gold. For me, the Royal Twist is a close #2 behind Scottish and would certainly be a regular in my cellar. Read Less

th gentle and fulfilling and has a slightly fruity aftertaste without being over-civilized like your average aromatic.
I hope they make this a regular feature of the Mac Baren lineup, because it has the staying power that Roll Cake and Dark Twist do not, and seems more flavorful than Three Nuns Green. The closest match is the Savinelli Doblone d'Oro which is really tasty but not quite as intense as this blend. I also noted an absence of the usual sugar fire blast on the first light, which suggests that Mac Baren might be subtly changing their topping and binding agent, traditionally maple sugar in water.
You could easily make this into an all-day smoke because there is just enough nicotine but not too much, and while the flavor is strong, it is more refreshing than fatiguing. Mouth-feel is better than the Three Nuns, but less soft than the Cavendish-enhanced Roll Cake. Lots of good natural tobacco flavor comes from these little curly cuts, which light easily but burn with the slow steady flavor of flakes. Wish I'd gotten more tins of Royal Twist. Read Less

Just wonderful! Mac Baren has outdone himself. I haven't enjoyed smoking this much in a long time. The recipe is magnificent, the execution is magnificent, and I would like this tobacco to be put into production.

Taste is medium to full and consistent, with notes of wood, bread, leather, orange peel, dry earth, floral, slightly bitter, grass/vegetation/hay, sugar, moderately spicy, a tangy dark spice fruit background note, and a peppery retro. Took the remainder in the rubout dish, and mixed it with some Stockkbye Jubilaeum, 50/50. Another experiment was 33% Dark twist, 33% Edisto, and 33% Royal twist. Both are deeelicious---Enjoy! Read Less

te hard to keep lit. This is the soul reason I've given this blend 4 1/2 stars and not a full 5. Otherwise, this blend was every bit as impressive as I expected it to be from my experience with the other MacBaren limited blends. The room note was a pleasant mix of sweet grass and baked goods and the flavor profile was, indeed, warm bread and sweet grass, but with steak sauce and ketchup coming through from the dark fired Kentucky and a touch of nutmeg. I also found it to have a slight hint of bread and butter pickles. That smell comes through for me in the background of the tin note as well, along with grass, hay, steak sauce and ketchup, respectively. There's just enough perique to give a nice kick to the dark fireds and provide a nice compliment on the retrohale as well. Among the other limited blends from MacBaren, I'd say this is probably my least favorite, but, if my rating is any indication, that's just more of a testament to how great of a job MacBaren does with these blends overall.
