Excellent tin note. Smells great while smoking. The Cognac is very prevalent. Dry out time is necessary. Nice assortment of various cuts. great aromatic.

ely no bite!! Easy to keep lit and very little moisture at the bottom of the bowl. Might need to air dry some in a tray for 30 to 60 minutes before packing your pipe, but well worth the wait. I highly recommend this fine blend!!! Read Less

This a good example of a Scottish Blend, the cognac is pronounced and is really good. It's a very solid aromatic. The only thing worth mentioning is that I think this will ghost a pipe easily, so save this for a pipe you use for this type of blend.

o heavy, not too light. Just right. But, of course, the blend wouldn't stand out anyway if it weren't for the great use of top grade tobaccos. There are some very good Virginia tobaccos in this blend, along with black Cavendish, obviously, and it shows. It burns well when you give it proper drying time and it does well at what an aromatic is supposed to do well at. It provides good flavors and they come through nicely and throughout the entire bowl with a room note that's just as pleasant as the taste. One of my top 5 aros. Read Less

This is one of the best aromatics ever! Comprised of various cuts of tobacco this is a delicious blend. The cognac is prevalent but not overpowering. The room note is wonderful. For me, this is as good as aromatics get.

he topping is at the front with a little citrus sweetness in the background. The Cognac topping is very pleasant and leaves a nice smelling room note. Although somewhat heavily topped the tobacco was not too wet for me. I did have it in a mason jar about a year before smoking. If you are one of those folks that likes your tobacco really dry, you may want to dry it a bit. I detected no harshness or bite at all right down to the bottom of the bowl. The tin note is almost Delicious with a mild Cognac aroma. The grassy note from the Virginias comes through. The room note is very pleasant and inviting. Rattray's has done it again! NOTE: it needs a lot of drying time.

ver & causes a bit of chemical burn. As with any tobacco that may tend to bite initially, employing the DGT method will negate that issue somewhat but will still bite a little if not sipped. It is fairly moist but can be smoked from the opening or dried to the smoker's preference. The tasty flavoring is there at the beginning & remains throughout but after some has burned off it improves a little... the point where all the varietals & flavoring meld together & form a unique flavor with a pleasing aroma. Drying it out doesn't seem to diminish the flavor or aroma which is my preferred method for preparation. My thoughts: Bagpiper's dream would be better with less cognac which would most likely negate much of the chemical burn & harshness. The Vanilla flavoring is overwhelmed by the Cognac. Read Less

at's been on my rotation these past 3 months. Thus the return to aromatics. Today it's time for the Bagpiper's Delight. On opening the tin, the nose is greeted with Cognac and Vanilla scents, slightly sweet. The appearance is a jumble of different flakes, rubbed flakes, broken flakes, and broken slices from pale to dark. There is a lot going on. The moisture is spot on; the tobacco packs easily, and burns perfectly. Also, there was no goop in my bowl and the end. The initial burst of flavor matches the tin note, only with wonderful tobacco flavor shining through. All told the intensity of flavor is between mild and medium. Because of the various bits of tobacco, the flavor is shifting constantly. I experienced no bite, but I am a cautious smoker. The aroma is a go with everyone. The nicotine level is low, which suits me fine when it's hot. This is a wonderful blend on first impression. Read Less

I was drawn to this one by the tin and partly by all the great reviews. This is what all aromatics should be like. great tin note, great room note and I little to no tongue bite.
