Fine Scottish Tobacco

Product: Rattray's Old Gowrie 50g
I didn't like this one when I first tried it, so I cellared my 500g in a mason jar. Spin ahead 4 years, opened it up and discovered Scottish Gold. Note of plums smokes like a million, a little wet dried it out some, burns well to snow white ash, high... Read More
volume of smoke, room note is tolerable Nic-Hit medium, not an all day smoke but is repeatable during my smoking day. Highly recommended to all but a new piper!! Read Less

This blend is an excellent, mild Virginia. Very pleasant an well behaved in the pipe. There is no bite and a faint sweet taste. There is also a cedar taste that weaves in and out. Those who are used to stronger mixtures may find the taste too faint, ... Read More
however. Even so it is well worth the price of admission and I believe that this would do well with aging. Read Less

Product: Rattray's Old Gowrie 100g
The more I smoke of this the more I love it. 16 bucks for 100 grams. That isn’t cheap gas station pipe tobacco prices but for a quality blend that seems a very fair price. This should give almost anyone the ability to buy a can or two. This is my fir... Read More
st experience with a Rattray’s blend. Amazingly cool and flavorful. Very clean on the palate. Definitely a lighter blend than I usually smoke. I actually enjoyed this because of the lighter smoking. I realized after smoking this how flavorful and satisfying a lighter blend can be. All I have smoked for years is full flavored blends with pretty good strength. Bottom of the bowl will have you craving another one because of how clean and refreshing it is. No thick oils or tar covering my mouth after the pipe. No bite. A broken flake that burns as well as a shag cut. It never ceases to amaze me what a fine blending house can do with two or three tobacco’s (this is made by Kolhase and Kopp in Germany for Rattrays). Comes somewhat moist in can. Lovely grassy, lemon scent from can with the characteristic raisin smell of Virginia blends). Dried for 15 minutes. After the charring light pipe stays lit until bottom of bowl. Bought 100 gram can (now wishing I had gotten 500 grams). Going to be my after work pipe daily until it is gone. If you love this tobacco and cannot get it in stock you may love Blairgowrie by Druquer & Sons (Blairgowrie is a little bit more stout and contains some Latakia). I could see pretty much any pipe smoker enjoying this blend. Will be purchasing more Rattray’s blends in the future. Read Less

This is a blend at the top of its genre. Not many can match it. Needs to be dried out before smoking.

Great ready rubbed cut. I have rubbed out and just packed as is, both methods provide good smokes. Slow puffing is most important or it can bite a bit. Very mild but so rewarding if you go slow. Slightly sweet and a bit grassy. Might be my favourite... Read More

I love this blend, I picked up a tin on a blind buy and it smokes really well. Reminds me of cabbies mixture. Definitely worth a look.

One of the first blends that I smoked when starting out pipe smoking thanks to the recommendation of my excellent B&M in Boston. Top rate. I've since moved on from Euro blends to mostly McClelland but I always have a tin or two around of Old Gowrie i... Read More

A classic old Scottish Virgina Blend

Product: Rattray's Old Gowrie 100g
It's misleading to call this a "VA/Per". It's really a straight and matured viginia blend. The perique in this must be very minimal because it is barely noticeable, if at all.

Moreover, the blend is so well prepared that it doesn't need added aromas, the Virginia's Choice is so good!
So you can smoke all the day long, if you can't offer you an humidor very rich.
Buy it undr the bulk format: it will cost a little, and you could enjoy it alone or with friends.
