Danish Estates: Bjarne Smooth Freehand with Plateau

Product Number: 004-001-6383

The legendary Bjarne Neilsen was known as the "Ambassador of Pipes", a larger-than-life Dane who earned the title from his work as a minister of commerce for the Danish government in the seventies, helping importers make connections with Danish companies to buy products. Though he never actually made a pipe himself, he eventually owned a prominent pipe making company and employed artisans like Mogens Johansen, Ph. Vigen and Tonni Nielsen. I cannot be certain, but I get a get a feeling that this piece was designed by Mogens, as I've seen pieces with this specific look of Danish stylization, from the organically minimalist gesture of the bowl, to the abstracted plateaued rim and shank.
