Danish Estates: Ingo Garbe Smooth Billiard

Product Number: 004-001-11425

Ingo Garbe began making pipes in 1967 and is said to be the first German Freehand pipe maker. He makes pipes only with smooth finishes, refusing to use sandblasting or rustication to modify the briar's surface, and adhering to classic shapes with perfect engineering. This Billiard is a fine example of that philosophy, its bowl upright with the rim gently curved inward toward the tobacco chamber. Flame grain dominates the left flank while birdseye adorns the right side underneath the warm walnut contrast stain. The cheeking at the transition maintains the shaping of the bowl, which lifts lightly on the far heel, while the cylindrical shank extends to the tapered mouthpiece.
