Danish Estates: Tom Eltang Smooth Bent Billiard (Snail) (2017) (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-001-18522
Tom Eltang's diminutive shapes are some of his most well-known, yet the Danish master is still able to form some truly impressive larger shapes as well. This full-bodied, sinuous bent Billiard is an excellent example and is rife with supple curves, its plump bowl filling the hand nicely with its substantial proportions. The thick shank continues the bowl's robustness, creating cheeking around the transition before curling upward to the downturned saddle with its domed base echoing the bowl's roundness. Eltang has perfectly utilized the bowl's large surface area to showcase the streaks of vertical grain that cascades down its flanks, dressing it in one of his signature contrast stains. It's no surprise, then, that Tom stamped this piece with his highest Snail grade, making for a deep-chambered piece that's as prestigious as ever. And to top it all off, it's still unsmoked.- Jeffery Sitts
