It's impossible to overstate the significance of Jess Chonowitsch's work to modern pipemaking at large, as the Danish master has arguably contributed more to modern artisanal shape renditions than any maker alive today. His style is built on a foundation of Danish functionalism, approached from an intrinsically minimalist standpoint. It manifests itself brilliantly in this Lovat shape, as the supple roundness of the bowl is combined with just the lightest sense of poise, bolstered by a touch of Danish lift at the heel. The shank is ever-so-slightly tapered, gently emanating from the pinched transition to gracefully meet the succinct saddle stem. And as for the finish, Jess treated it to a magnificent contrast stain, accentuating plenty of lively flame dancing harmoniously on all flanks. A truly stunning pipe, sure to be the centerpiece of your collection. It's unsmoked, and aside from a few scratches on the bowl, condition is excellent.
