Danish Estates: Former Freehand Smooth Bent Dublin with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-19351
In profile, this bent Dublin from Hans "Former" Nielsen is fluid and dynamic, the flaring bowl urging forward and the upturn of the shank balanced by the recurve of the abbreviated saddle stem. The bowl is distinguished by a pointed spur along the heel, creating a sleek and angular aesthetic, and the shank extends into two knuckles of bamboo. In hand, however, or when viewed from above, this piece takes on a slightly different personality. Instead of symmetrically round, the rim is shaped like a lens, with the sides coming to points. These points correspond to ridgelines that run down the flanks and inform the profile's pointed heel. It offers a delightful tactile experience, and it makes for one of Former's more flourishing designs.
