Danish Estates: Jess Chonowitsch Partially Sandblasted Bent Brandy with Boxwood
Product Number: 004-001-15779
Jess Chonowitsch is a curator of classic Danish style and shaping, the master carver having worked under Sixten Ivarsson and alongside the likes of Lars, Sixten's son, and Teddy Knudsen. Since those early days of learning in Ivarsson's workshop. Jess has now become one of the premier artisans in the world. His shaping aesthetic is usually simple and traditional, conforming to cues characterizing the Danish tradition, and every aspect of his work is superlative — from proportions to finishing to stem work. Presented here is a lithe bent Brandy, a touch more slender and petite than other Jess pieces we've encountered. He's streamlined the form further via a saddle stem, leading the eyes to the bowl's broad base. Flourished with a flaring accent of boxwood, it's dressed in a low-profile sandblast and smooth-polished rim to complete the Danish sense of charm.-Truett Smith
