Danish Estates: Tom Eltang Smooth Oscar with Boxwood (M) (Snail) (2018)

Product Number: 004-001-16690

While we've received many iterations of the Eltang designed Oscar shape from Chacom over the years, this is just the second time we've ever seen a Tom Eltang made Oscar, new or estate. At its core, it's essentially a more fluid and lively take on his signature Eskimo shape, displaying a lenticular shank design that features nearly as much breadth as the rim. The main difference between them is that while the Eskimo is very squat and low-profile with some sharper line work, the Oscar is utterly smooth and flowing in its nature. The gradual, curvaceous transition creates a rather dramatic silhouette as it rises like a wave, eventually terminating at the aft of the bowl's rounded rim. It's all dressed in one of Tom's vibrant contrast stains, highlighting an impressive display of cross grain along the shank's ridges and a mesmerizing amount of birdseye everywhere else. This piece has undeniably earned the carver's prestigious Snail grade as well as the even rarer "M" designation, denoting an exceptionally gorgeous iteration of an already rarely-fashioned shape. It's been very lightly smoked and is in excellent condition.
