Danish Estates: Benni Jorgensen Sandblasted Tomato with Olivewood

Product Number: 004-001-16254

When it comes to images of classic Danish design, it's easy to picture pipes predominately in soft and supple styles. There are, however, plenty of more muscular approaches that are well-established too — many of S. Bang's most iconic approaches, for example. And S. Bang is just what I first thought of when I initially glanced at the shank and transition of this Benni Jorgensen bent Tomato. It shares the same sort of playful, sturdy, compact, yet graceful style in profile. Whereas Per and Ulf would have likely left this piece smooth, however, Benni has opted for a dark-stained sandblast, having coaxed out a wealth of gorgeous ring grain as well as providing a more striking contrast against the olivewood accent. Condition-wise, just some minor rim darkening as well as mild carbonizing and scraping in the chamber to consider.
