Danish Estates: Jorn Larsen Smooth Bent Egg with Silver

Product Number: 004-001-16436

Jorn Larsen was as much a machinist as he was a pipe maker. He designed the copy-fraizer that came to dominate Danish factory pipe production in the 1990s and 2000s (and is still in use by Tom Eltang for the Sara Eltang line, Neerup, Chacom and others). Most of his own pipes were made using this method, using templates based on shapes from his friend Jess Chonowitsch, and then finished to a level that made them indistinguishable from super-high-grades.

He retired from pipe making sometime around 2003 or 2004, but the pipes he made during that period were exceptional. The shaping was largely done by machine (albeit ones he designed and built), but the shapes were exceptional, and the finishing work was immaculate. This bent Egg is one such example, sporting good grain, a beautifully cut vulcanite stem, and a silver band.
