Danish Estates: Jess Chonowitsch Smooth Billiard with Horn
Product Number: 004-001-16645
The name Jess Chonowitsch elicits respect and even awe across the world of pipe making. He has developed new shapes that have become part of the accepted shape chart of modern Danish pipe making, and his interpretations of traditional shapes are equally important. This Billiard is a remarkable example of his skills, with a slender shank terminated by a beautifully grained accent of horn. The rim is gently rounded, as is most often seen with Jess' pipes, matching the soft lines of the slightly tapering bowl. At just under five-and-a-half inches long, it's of a convenient size, its tobacco chamber offering plenty of smoking time without increasing the pipe's dimensions into excessive proportions. The smooth stain highlight wonderful tendrils of flame grain. For those who appreciate Danish styling and maintain a love for traditional shapes, a Billiard such as this is difficult to resist. It should be noted that the horn accent has a small ding along the underside, but apart from that minor blemish, this pipe is in pristine condition.- Chuck Stanion
