Danish Estates: Peter Heeschen Sandblasted Apple with Bamboo (A)
Product Number: 004-001-16755
The Apple shape is an inherently plump design, and when rendered by Peter Heeschen, it becomes all the more so. Here the Danish carver has slightly squashed the bowl, broadening its base considerably so that it almost looks like a stout Brandy. As a result, it sits comfortably and gives the bowl its gentle cheeks around the smooth transition. Heeschen has then extended the shank with two trim knuckles of bamboo, expertly married to the saddle stem whose base continues the rhythm of the bamboo. The light-depth sandblast has brought out an excellent display of wavy grain, while the stummel's stain is complemented by the bamboo's dark color. Though he may be more widely known for his bent Egg and signature "P" shapes, Peter was truly an expert at crafting a variety of classic Danish forms.- Jeffery Sitts
