Danish Estates: Peter Stokkebye Smooth Bent Billiard with Bamboo (F)

Product Number: 004-001-17157

Peter Stokkebye pipes were made by Jørgen Larsen, a Danish carver with extraordinary skills but some problems with allergies. Larsen became allergic to briar dust and had to give up pipemaking, though he started up again and quit again. It must have been frustrating, as the pipes he created for the Stokkebye brand are highly sought by collectors, and it's pretty easy to see why when viewing this example. Three knuckles of pale bamboo separate the slightly curved saddle bit from the stummel, while a Brandy bowl rises from its pronounced, rounded heel in a gentle taper, showcasing the vertical grain all around the bowl.
