Danish Estates: Kurt Balleby Smooth Rhodesian (4) (Unsmoked)

Product Number: 004-001-18380

Kurt Balleby's Rhodesian designs are easily recognizable as the Danish artisan's work, each rendition displaying immaculate grain, expert engineering, and skillful line work. In silhouette, this particular example is full of grace and elegance, the bowl gently rounded and broad in its shaping. It's then paired to a square paneled shank that's reminiscent of Poul Ilsted's architectural, geometric style, while the sinuous curve from bit to heel and the bowl's high-set beadlines are signature Balleby. The bottom ridgelines nearly come to a point along the bowl's base, contributing to its lifted disposition while the top ridgelines end at the transition and help create cheeking at the bowl's lower flanks. One of my favorite aspects about this composition is how Kurt implemented the half saddle stem, its base continuing the shank's ridgelines and upward curving momentum. It's all dressed in a vibrant auburn-hued contrast stain with lively streaks of flame grain engulfing the bowl underneath the ridgelines and whorls of birdseye above. Stunning work from Kurt and even more desirable as this one's still unsmoked.
