Danish Estates: Benni Jorgensen Smooth Bent Apple

Product Number: 004-001-18440

Benni Jorgensen's portfolio testifies to the Danish carver's fondness for plump, organic shapes like this bent Apple. Compared to English iterations, this piece exudes a softness of line and supple grace that so often characterizes the Danish pipe aesthetic. In this piece from Benni, the bowl's waistline is slightly higher-set on the bowl, reminiscent of an Acorn, and the transition prompts subtle cheeks along the lower bowl. Most attractive in my opinion, though, is the profile's undercurve — beautifully grounding the piece upon its consistent arch. The shaping of the stem base adds a tasteful, accenting touch, and the grain orientation further commends the gorgeous shaping.
