Danish Estates: Knute Smooth Freehand

Product Number: 004-001-18629

Knute pipes, made by Karl Erik Ottendahl, who also made a few Ben Wades for Preben Holm as well as pipes in several other brands, follow the Danish aesthetic of organicism and asymmetry, both evident in this pipe. Karl Erik passed away in 2004, so it's at least 16 years old — possibly much older. This Freehand resembles a Cherrywood in profile and even features the design's flattened base but lacks the ability to sit unassisted. However, the grain pattern conforms beautifully to the bowl's shaping and the radiator-style rings along the stem base adds a playful, flourishing touch. With plateau at the rim and shank face, it's an organic design, perfect for those drawn to the popular Danish Fancy style.
