Danish Estates: Poul Ilsted Sandblasted Paneled Bent Dublin
Product Number: 004-001-18649
The legendary Poul Ilsted was a master of shape, line, and form, consistently regarded as one of the best craftsman the pipe making world has ever seen. Ilsted's work often featured tight, crisp panels paired to voluptuous, curving forms, juxtaposing hard and soft lines. He championed an aesthetic that's still looked to by artisan carvers today, namely by Manduela Ruger-Kusk, who studied under Ilsted. Presented here is a flowing bent Dublin design, featuring a hexagonallly-paneled bowl and shank. Those firm ridgelines contrast against the shape's genteel silhouette and demonstrate why Ilsted was one of the best when it came to crafting faceted designs. The panels are precisely placed around the bowl, each individual facet framing the consistent array of undulating ring grain that creeps up the flanks. Ilsted's influence on pipe making is undeniable as collectible pieces such as this one can attest.- Jeffery Sitts
