Danish Estates: Tonni Nielsen Smooth Bent Egg (Viking)
Product Number: 004-001-17827
Tonni Nielsen has been crafting pipes since he was a teenager, notably starting his career at W.Ø. Larsen, working alongside and studying under master artisans such as Hans "Former" Nielsen and Teddy Knudsen. Tonni's portfolio is readily recognized for his renditions of Danish classics and bent shapes full of supple curves and elegant line work, making this bent Egg an excellent addition to his impressive portfolio. It's presented with the traditional lifting gesture of heel and soft curvature to its bowl, though with a sleekness that suggests a modernist interpretation. A slight forward cant and crisp transition help to create some clean lines, while the lifting shank maintains a streamlined continuity with the bowl at the underside, with just a bit of checkmark-like silhouette at the top. Finished with a uniquely stepped stem, all of the defining lines of the piece are resolved, creating a unified presentation that is purely Tonni.- Jeffery Sitts
