Danish Estates: Emil Chonowitsch Smooth Bent Dublin (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-18691
Though overshadowed by the fame that his son Jess would eventually attain, Emil Chonowitsch was a great pipe maker in his own right — something more collectors do certainly seem to have noticed in recent years. In other words, don't expect surviving examples of Emil Chonowitsch's work to get any easier to find in the years to come. This example is an impressive interpretation of the Dublin, the bowl upright and boldly proportioned, rising in Stack-like disposition and illuminating birdseye along its flanks. The bend is almost subliminal, subtly balancing the visual weight of the bowl, which is beautifully presented in a chestnut stain to enhance the grain. It's presented here in unsmoked condition.
