Danish Estates: Kurt Balleby Smooth Bent Brandy with Bamboo (3)
Product Number: 004-001-18980
The bent Brandy is a voluptuous and gently curved form rendered by every artisan and factory for the past hundred years or more — because it's popular and pleasing to hold and to view. When constructed by an artisan like Kurt Balleby, however, it's elevated by precision, proportion, and detail. This is a pipe that can make one happy just by looking at it; and smoking it, I presume, must be even more enjoyable. An array of lively flame grain populates the bowl's surface, the streaks rising in concert with the gradual taper of the flanks. Pronounced cheeking at the transition maintains the bowl's curvaceousness while the shank is extended with two knuckles of pale bamboo. The organic medium arcs upward to the tapered mouthpiece which ends in a crisp lip button with a carefully shaped slot that foretells the smooth dispersal of flavorful smoke.- Chuck Stanion
