Danish Estates: Peter Heding Smooth Pickaxe with Boxwood (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-18937
There's an independent nature to the bowl of this Pickaxe from Peter Heding, which is a piece from early in his career. The bowl and shank are, by design, actually separate elements glued together, and a long shank extension of boxwood reaches to the slender mouthpiece. The grain is stunning all around the bowl, which is slightly oval from an aerial perspective. The rim is perhaps the most visually enticing aspect here providing a lifting gesture on the near side which is counterbalanced by a declension on the far side, and left and right sides are lower than the center for a smoothly undulating effect. Tight birdseye graces that large expanse of rim, and this piece remains unsmoked.
