Danish Estates: Emil Chonowitsch Sandblasted Billiard
Product Number: 004-001-19244
Father of famed artisan Jess Chonowitsch, Emil boasted an esteemed career of over 20 years, beginning just after WWII. Like his son, the elder Chonowitsch catered to Danish-style renditions of classic shapes, exemplified in this Billiard. The shape here is beautifully proportioned, and the bowl is softly tapered and slightly forward of cant to balance the profile. Sticking to traditional English shaping cues, though, Emil chose not to inflate the rim, aligning with the crisp line of the shank and stem, while the heel mimics the gentle angle of the transition. All dressed in a stunning sandblast that highlights a vast array of ring grain, it's a vintage piece of Danish artisan pipe-making history.
